CHIEF OBSERVER'S REPORT for Week 19 7-May-01 through 13-May-01 H. Hudson, A. Takeda GENERAL Solar activity was not remarkable during the weekdays, although AR 9445, the target of the sigmoid campaign, geterated a few C-class events. In the weekend, AR 9454 grew up obviously and produced two M3-class flares. SXT TECHNICAL No new problems. SXT SCIENTIFIC For Web material see the science nuggets: Current Week: http://isass1.solar.isas.ac.jp/sxt_co/010511.html Index: http://isass1.solar.isas.ac.jp/sxt_co/index.html This week's science nugget presents a quick report of the sigmoid campaign we kicked off on 3rd May. Summarizing the activity of the target region, AR 9445, we discuss about the relation among those things: flares, CMEs, energy-buildup, and helicity-buildup. CAMPAIGNS On 10th, we discontinued the sigmoid campaign on AR 9445, which was approaching to the west limb. We think it worked well this time, since several eruptive flares from 9445 followed the original announcement. For SXT plans, see: http://isass1.solar.isas.ac.jp/sxt_co/sxt_future.html For SXT completed campaigns, see: http://isass1.solar.isas.ac.jp/sxt_co/sxt_catalog.html PERSONNEL R. Canfield left on 9th, H. Hudson left on 12nd. SEMINARS No seminar for this week. SXT TABLE PLAN, WEEK 20 (13-May-01 through 19-May-01) For weeks 20 and 21, we will cooperate with the 7th MEDOC (Multi- Experiment Data Operation Centre for SoHO) campaign, which consists of several independant campaigns. For week 20, we will support JOP131/107 "Dynamics of Active Regions/Ly alpha in prominences", lead by B. Schmieder. The main targets of this campaign are prominences and filaments. We plan to go to ARS0 mode during the KSC contacts to observe a dark region in PFI, and outside KSC passes, we will observe the bright region as usual. Please keep in mind the fact, however, in case a region with significant brigtness appears on the disk, we might change the strategy. _______________________________________________________________ JST Day UT Start Time Pass Table ID Monday AM 13-MAY-01 17:55 2 010513 P2 ARS1 DRK W* Monday AM 13-MAY-01 21:19 4 010513 P4 ARS1 DIF W* Monday PM 14-MAY-01 14:34 1 010514 P1 ARS0 MEDOC Tuesday AM 14-MAY-01 17:56 3 010514 P3 ARS1 STD W* Tuesday PM 15-MAY-01 14:34 1 010515 P1 ARS0 MEDOC Wednesday AM 15-MAY-01 17:56 3 010515 P3 ARS1 STD W* Wednesday PM 16-MAY-01 14:33 1 010516 P1 ARS0 MEDOC Thursday AM 16-MAY-01 17:56 3 010516 P3 ARS1 STD W* Thursday PM 17-MAY-01 12:53 1 010517 P1 ARS0 MEDOC Friday AM 17-MAY-01 17:56 4 010517 P4 ARS1 STD W* Friday PM 18-MAY-01 12:53 1 010518 P1 ARS0 MEDOC Saturday AM 18-MAY-01 17:57 4 010518 P4 ARS1 STD W Saturday PM 19-MAY-01 12:52 1 010519 P1 ARS0 MEDOC Sunday AM 19-MAY-01 17:57 4 010519 P4 ARS1 STD W The date part of a table ID reflects the UT date of pass 1. KSC Tohbans: In general flare mode supersedes table upload, i.e. if a flare is in progress please do not upload a new table, and contact the chief observer. Normally it is OK to go ahead with the planned table without change on the next pass, if it is available. Chief observers should keep an eye on this.
