From grl@kreutz.nascom.nasa.gov Sat Nov 24 14:43:44 2001 Date: Wed, 21 Nov 2001 17:13:30 -0500 (EST) From: Gareth Lawrence To: Gareth Lawrence Subject: Partial Halo CME on 2001/11/21 UCMEO 93001 11121 2200/ 11121 61406 92142 1651/ 310// 223// 40395 11121 61248 91448 31815 09704 1222/ 99999 PLAIN BT LASCO and EIT observed a partial halo CME on 2001/11/21. The event was first observed in C2 at 14:06 UT as a very narrow loop front over the SW limb; by 215:54 UT this front spanned about 145 deg around the C2 occulting disk from PA 165 to PA 310. The front first appeared in C3 at 15:18 UT with maximal coverage of the C3 occultor by 17:18 UT. The plane of sky speed of the front was measured as 395 km/s at PA 228 (SW) with very small acceleration through the coronagraphs' fields of view. The CME was most probably associated with a long duration C4.7 X-ray flare in AR9704 between 12:39 and 15:10 UT with peak emission at 13:47 UT. EIT observed this flare between 12:48 and 14:48 UT, with peak emission at 13:36 UT. SEC places the flare at S15W18. Neither an EIT wave nor a dimming was observed in association with this event.
